TOS Character Posture Study

Description

Talked about in this journal: [link]

The portion that is relevant to this image:

Posture/expression is focusing largely on what the actor is doing with their body.
Gesture/movement is a single line showing that character's overall emotion.
Center of gravity shows how that character is rooted in the shot.

In this shot:
Kirk: His tilt represents uncertainty and curiosity.
Spock: His rigid posture is alert and observant.
McCoy: His fluid saunter accompanied by his overall gesture shows defeat in his posture. His center of gravity is really straining and heavy.
Each of them have a very open posture, which is a vulnerable shot (this is true for acting in general, though). McCoy's posture makes a lot of sense as he approaches the dead red shirt. Kirk's also feeling loss here. I think Spock is concerned with what killed the officer and what will happen next.

And this is what I do for my own acting as well as including elements like this in drawing.

actually, i think its awesomesauce that you are showing us this stuff. especially for dA. doing redlines of actors definitely helps me draw poses. but my fave way is actually prancing around like im feeling that certain mood.
